Treating Dry Skin

Maxine Lee just got home from skiarea and was complaining to her friend Geraldine Carlson about the miserable issues she had with dry skin on the slopes. Geraldine told her that she had exactly the same problem at Meiringen, Bern, Switzerland. An very experienced skiier laid out the three simple principles to keep your skin in good condition in cold weather. She definitely plans to use that on her trip to Brameloup, Massif Central, France on her next vacation.

Winter is the worst time for our skin. A huge number of people fight itchy, cracked, rough, irritated and painful skin. Heading out to the local market to pick up the most advertised healing lotions and creams to help eliminate the discomfort and heal the cracks for moments of relief. However, many people are passing up on the essential and cheap methods to not only get relief from dry, chapped and cracked skin, but also can go a long way to prevent it.

People are made up mostly of water. For some reason, in the winter, we overlook the need for drinking enough water. In the summer, when we are losing fluids through sweat and exerting ourselves, we know we need to drink lots of water to replace the water as we lost. In the winter the icy air does much the same to our body. It withdraws that fluid right out of us. This then dries out our skin, leaving it dry and itchy. Making sure that you drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day will help you win the battle over dried out and cracked skin. Try this out for the next two weeks and you will undoubtedly see a real positive change in your skin in a matter of days.

On the same topic of the vital necesity of moisture, a reliable moisturizing lotion is also a good idea. Make sure that you are buying one that fits your skin type so that you aren't going to end up with oily uncomfortable skin. I recommend a cream as opposed to a lotion in the winter, since a cream is thicker and more protective of the skin. Also spend a moment or so and read the label. The cream or lotion that you use in the summer probably won't be appropriate in the winter. Avoid one with alcohol in the first few ingredients, as alcohol is a drying agent, just what you dont' want.

Dress appropriately in the winter. Don't poo poo this, think about it. The more exposed skin that you have increases the opportunity that the cold has to suck the moisture from your skin. Try to layer your clothes and let that innermost layer be clothes that are made out of cotton. Cotton will let you skin breathe, will keep you warm and won't irritate your skin.

By following these three simple steps, you will not only notice relief from that really dry skin, and you will also prevent your skin from becoming dry. Drinking enough water, the correct moisturizing cream for your skin type and the right clothing and you will have healthy, well hydrated, comfortable skin all over you.
